Fireworks The Cause Of Fire In Cowiche Canyon Wednesday
Yakima Firefighters are staying busy chasing brush fires in the valley. Capt. Jeff Pfaff of the Yakima Fire Department says a fire reported in Cowiche Canyon Wednesday night was an arson fire. "We have 4 witnesses who say they saw a car driving down the road and someone threw fireworks out the window."
The fire was reported at about 6:00 p.m. in the 5600 block of Cowiche Canyon Road. Pfaff says they found fireworks in the area where the fire started. Before firefighters were able to gain control the blaze burned about 40 to 50 acres, not 200 acres as previously reported. If you have any information that could lead to an arrest contact the Yakima Fire Department at 575-6060.
Yakima firefighters were called to apartments on east beach street early Thursday morning for a fire on the third floor. Pfaff says someone had left a burning cigarette on the balcony porch and the porch caught fire. No injuries reported. Damage estimated at about $2500.
