Federal officials are investigating after someone on Saturday threw a rock into a window at the Department of Homeland Security office that houses the ICE office at 3707 River Road in Yakima.

THE ROCK AND THE FIRE CONNECTED?

Yakima Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jeremiah Stilley there's no evidence the rock and a small brush fire in the back of the building were connected. In fact Stilley tells KIT News they believe the fire was connected to a homeless camp in the area. However Stilley says the rock throwing incident happened about 5 minutes before the fire was discovered.

THE FIRE DIDN'T DAMAGE THE BUILDING

The fire burned brush and privacy fence near the office. The fire was reported at about 12:30 pm Saturday and was doused about 30 minutes later. No injuries were reported. Officials at the Homeland Security Office had no comment on Tuesday.

REACTION FROM DAN NEWHOUSE

U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse issued a statement on Tuesday saying, "this violence has no place in our political or law enforcement process, and the fact that it has seeped into our backyard is unacceptable. I will be reaching out to law enforcement, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, to find out what resources are needed in light of this inexcusable act. Anyone involved should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

SEARCH FOR CLUES CONTINUES

The investigation continues today. Stilley says they believe the fire was an arson fire and they say there's no evidence the fire had anything to do with the Department of Homeland Security or ICE office.
