Firefighters Douse Flames At Local Church

Yakima Firefighters were called to St. Michaels Episcopal Mission at 5 South Naches Avenue early Wednesday morning for a fire reported near an exterior basement door. Capt. Jeff Pfaff says when firefighters arrived at about 6:07 a.m. Wednesday they found a fire near the door leading to the basement. "They were able to quickly stop the fire but there was significant smoke damage inside the building."
The fire was on the outside of the building but smoke from the fire went into the building. Because it's a fire at a church members of the Federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating. They say the fire was not arson however the cause has yet to be determined. No injuries were reported.
