The Manager of the Yakima Farmers Market does not like the proposal to create a public plaza downtown in front of the Capital Theater.

Don Eastridge says removing a parking lot is not the answer to bringing more people downtown. “We fill that parking lot every Sunday and people are still looking for places to park. You are taking away parking spaces from the market.”

City officials say the parking spaces in the lot will be replaced with on and off street parking and two parking garages in the downtown area.

The Yakima Farmers Market wrapped up for the season on Sunday. Final numbers are not yet available but Eastridge says sales were similar to those of last year.

Eastridge says he hopes to work closely with the city on the parking issue and says he hopes to bring back the Tuesday farmers market next year.
