Farm Bill Website; Ethanol Drives Corn Demand
**After surviving the drama of the tax bill, the 2018 farm bill would be an ideal piece of legislation to rebuild some bipartisan courtesy in the House.
That’s what Democratic leader on the House Ag Committee, Collin Peterson tells the Red River Farm Network.
Peterson says he and Chairman Michael Conaway agree “we’re going to start marking this up in committee at the end of January or the first part of February.”
**If you want to keep up with the progress being made by the House Ag Committee on the 2018 Farm Bill, there is now a website for that. Chairman Mike Conaway of Texas announced the launch of the site yesterday.
Conaway says he’s committed to completing a farm bill on time, adding they’ve spent the past three years preparing. He says they’re working on getting the policy right and will use the website to track progress on the farm bill.
Search for “agriculture dot house dot gov” to find the site.
**Ethanol is driving up demand for corn.
That’s according to the USDA’s December supply demand estimate.
As reported in Agwired, the 2017-18 forecast increases the amount of corn used to produce ethanol by 50 million bushels to 5.525 billion, based on less sorghum going to ethanol production.
As a result, corn ending stocks are lowered by 50 million bushels, but the impact on the season-average farm price range barely increased at $2.85 to $3.55 per bushel.
