Tanker trucks are now being used to provide drinking water to Gleed residents after a problem with a main pipe serving the area forced the system to be shut down earlier yesterday. Flooding along the Naches River is suspected to have damaged a pipe which serves city of Yakima customers as well as those in the Gleed area. Yakima customers are continuing to receive drinking water as normal because the system is currently relying on three wells located in the city. However, City Water/Irrigation Manager Dave Brown is encouraging everyone served by the Yakima drinking water to conserve water if possible. That includes not using drinking water to irrigate lawns, flower beds, and gardens. The Yakima School District and the city’s parks and recreation division have already agreed not to use drinking water for irrigation until repairs can be made.
