Errors Prove Costly in Loss to Medford

Fresh off their sixth errorless game of the summer Sunday in Wenatchee, the Pippins were hurt by numerous mistakes Monday, falling 5-3 to the Medford Rogues.

Yakima Valley (22-21) only allowed five hits, but committed six errors and walked eight hitters en route to a series-opening loss.

Medford (20-23) got on the board early, scoring twice in the 3^rd to go up 2-0. The Pippins evened things up with two unearned runs in the 5^th to make it 2-2. After Medford took a 3-2 lead with an unearned run in the top of the 7^th, the Pippins pulled even once again on an RBI triple from Jace Van De Brake.

However, in the 8^th, the Pippins defensive woes continued. Back-to-back throwing errors opened the inning, helping set the table for a go-ahead two-run single that put the Rogues ahead for good. The final three runs for Medford came across unearned in a game that saw just three total earned runs.

Yakima Valley falls to 1 1/2 games behind Corvallis in the wild card race with Monday’s loss. Game two is Tuesday at 7:05 on another Two Dollar Tuesday at Yakima County Stadium.
