Fresh off their sixth errorless game of the summer Sunday in Wenatchee, the Pippins were hurt by numerous mistakes Monday, falling 5-3 to the Medford Rogues.

Yakima Valley (22-21) only allowed five hits, but committed six errors and walked eight hitters en route to a series-opening loss.

Medford (20-23) got on the board early, scoring twice in the 3rd to go up 2-0. The Pippins evened things up with two unearned runs in the 5th to make it 2-2. After Medford took a 3-2 lead with an unearned run in the top of the 7th, the Pippins pulled even once again on an RBI triple from Jace Van De Brake.

However, in the 8th, the Pippins defensive woes continued. Back-to-back throwing errors opened the inning, helping set the table for a go-ahead two-run single that put the Rogues ahead for good. The final three runs for Medford came across unearned in a game that saw just three total earned runs.

Yakima Valley falls to 1 1/2 games behind Corvallis in the wild card race with Monday’s loss. Game two is Tuesday at 7:05 on another Two Dollar Tuesday at Yakima County Stadium.
