On August 22, 2011 at its regular meeting the Board of Commissioners disciplined Chief George Spencer with a two-day suspension without pay and a written reprimand for unprofessional conduct while in uniform. The discipline was imposed in response to a complaint from Chief Spencer’s neighbor regarding a verbal dispute between Chief Spencer and the neighbor that occurred while the Chief was in uniform. The Board does not tolerate unprofessional conduct by its employees or volunteers whether in or out of uniform and believes the discipline appropriately reflects the Board’s commitment to operating a professional fire department that respects all members of the community even in difficult situations. The Chief has apologized to the Board for his conduct and the Board will continue to work with Chief Spencer to prevent any future occurrences of this type of conduct.
