Don’t Complain: 7 Reasons Why You’re Lucky You Live in Yakima
Everyone complains, especially those that have never left the area. I see people on social media threaten to leave like the same problems aren't in other parts of the Country but to each their own. You'll either figure it out or you won't but here are 7 reasons we are blessed to live in the Yakima Valley
1. Four Distinct Seasons
The weather here is gorgeous, save the smoke-filled summers we have been experiencing, our blue sky days are pretty spectacular. If you want to fish, go hiking, or camping the summer months provide you with plenty of days to choose from. As the weather changes to fall the color of the leaves and fields are incredible. Even the crisp smell of Fall air is a great reminder of what an amazing place we live in. It doesn't get too cold too quick and the view is top-notch. Winter occasionally provides snow or areas of easy access if you're into skiing and snowshoeing. Spring brings flowers and wine activities as the different orchards crack open the season barrels!
It seems there is a brewery popping up on every corner like Starbucks but better because each one features unique tastings that pair with pizza and snacks that make light or dark ale to the next level.
3. Golf Courses
I know this is kind of seasonal BUT the courses in the area are top-notch. You can head out to Apple Tree Resort and enjoy not only a professional worthy course but also drinks and food on the deck. You want to live right on the course, that's a possibility. Other courses are offering night golfing or even movies on the course in the evening. All good times and all open and ready to serve you!
If you're feeling lucky we have a few different spots to choose from, you could head out to Toppenish and even stay at their hotel or over to Nob Hill and hit up bowling as well or even Casino Caribbean is open and ready to pay out big time!
There is a wide variety of restaurants to satisfy anyone's palate and SO many different Mexican Restaurants with authentic tacos and regional dishes you don't find everywhere else. We even have James Beard Award-winning tamales right here in town!
6. Shawn Niles
I added Shawn to the list because he could live anywhere and cook but he's chosen Yakima. He is going to train with the best in Italy and then come back here! He is competing in the World Food Competition and creating amazing food experiences like Bite Club for the adults and Urban Kitchen for the Youth while continuing to serve his creations out of The Lab and finer dining out at El Grasso! He's a gem foodie and he's all ours...please don't ever leave us!
I realize my list contains a bunch of alcohol but we are known for so many things and wine is right at the top of the list. There are SO many beautiful vineyards you can tour, get married in, or just enjoy a sip and some great food. Learn your favorites and bring your friends out to enjoy as well. Every place has things to brag on and delicious wine while taking in one of Yakima Valley's exceptional sunsets is perfection!
