Diesel Fuel Prices Fall: National Average Hits Lowest Level Since 2021
Good news for motorists in Yakima: average gasoline prices have dropped 10.2 cents per gallon over the past week, currently sitting at $3.62 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 91 stations in the area.
DRIVERS ARE LIKING THE FALLING PRICES OF DIESEL
The price represents a decrease of 3.8 cents compared to last month and a significant reduction of 46.3 cents per gallon compared to a year ago. In addition to local trends, the price of diesel fuel has also seen a minor decline, down 1.3 cents in the last week, bringing the national average to $3.52 per gallon—the lowest level recorded since 2021.
WE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE CHEAPEST GAS IN THE VALLEY
Across Washington state, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.83, a decrease from $4.03 just a few days ago. For those seeking the best deals in the Yakima Valley, Wheelers Kountry Korner in Wapato offers the region’s lowest price at $3.08 per gallon, while Costco in Union Gap has an average price of $3.15 per gallon.
PRICES ARE FALLING ON THE NATIONAL SIDE AS WELL
Nationally, the average price of gasoline has also decreased, falling 2.2 cents per gallon over the past week to $3.05. This follows a trend of an 11.8-cent decline from a month ago, with prices now standing 34.5 cents lower than they were at this time last year.
LOW GAS PRICES A GIFT TO THE NEXT PRESIDENT
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted the significance of these price changes amidst current events: “While much of the attention this week will be on the election and how it could potentially change the trajectory of the nation, gasoline prices are likely to be a gift to the next president, staying much lower than in previous years when COVID and Russia's war on Ukraine caused a surge that’s unlikely to repeat, no matter who wins the election. For now, Americans can expect the downward trend to continue in most states, while other states have seen prices jump temporarily due to a behavior we track called price cycling.”
HOLIDAY PRICES ARE LOW MEANING IT'S GOING TO BE CHEAPER TO TRAVEL
De Haan also highlighted that as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the number of states with sub-$3 per gallon prices is likely to increase, providing some relief to drivers as they prepare for travel.
As Yakima residents enjoy these lower gas prices, they're reminded to keep an eye on the fluctuating market as the holiday season approaches.
