The more I learn about the importance of sleep, the more my body wants to get off the early morning schedule, the more I’m compelled to share my findings.

For years I did live radio ads for Serta and they had a campaign about putting sheep out of work because you no longer needed to count them in order to fall asleep IF you had a Serta mattress.  Clever, but now add some science.  A group of researchers at Oxford University decided to put the sheep technique to the sleep test and we have some baaaaad news for the ewes.  They fell flat. Participants who tried counting sheep took almost twice as long to fall asleep. It turns out that counting sheep is too monotonous and becomes a chore instead of a snore.

So what’s plan B for a good night’s sleep?  Try counting waves instead. The sleepers in the study who visualized a calming beach scene had the most success falling asleep.  Say is that a flock of sheep there in the bay? ZZZZZZ…
