The Cowiche Canyon Conservancy is celebrating Thursday and the public is invited.

Executive Director Betsy Bloomfield says they are having a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate what they call the South Rim project.

Bloomfield says the community helped raise $350,000 to purchase the last 145 acres of the west end of Cowiche Canyon and uplands that extend all the way to Summitview Avenue.

“Had we not purchased this it could have been converted to other uses and might have cut off a lot of access to this fantastic recreational asset we have in our community”

The ceremony is set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the west end of the Cowiche Canyon trail.

Bloomfield says the land purchase is something the conservancy has been working on for the past 28 years.
