The ninth annual Cop on Top fundraiser for the Special Olympics is set to take place the weekend of June 1 at the Union Gap Top Foods on South First Street. This event benefits Special Olympic athletes by enabling them to participate in a wide variety of athletic events throughout the year. As with all Yakima Special Olympics events, the funds raised stay local to support our 800-plus athletes in the Yakima region.

Over the past eight years, Cop on Top has netted $25,300 for Yakima Special Olympics. A special thanks goes out in advance to the community as well as to Top Foods for the continued support shown to our athletes. The local media outlets covering this event are also considered key partners in the effort to raise awareness of fundraising campaigns and of Special Olympics. The Yakima Fire Department continues its long-standing participation on day one with the placement of the Cop on Top.
