Yakima city officials are asking community members to help find a new Yakima Police Chief during two upcoming forums. The city and Public Sector Search & Consulting, the recruiting firm hired by the City to conduct a search for the next police chief, will host two community forums in early February that will give people in Yakima an opportunity to share their thoughts about the characteristics and professional experience that are most important for the next Yakima police chief. A news release from the city gives details.

"Community forums about the police chief recruitment will take place on the following dates at the following locations:

Wednesday, February 6th, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Henry Beauchamp Community Center (1211 S. 7th Street)
Thursday, February 7th, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Harman Senior Center (101 N. 65th Avenue)

All members of the public are welcome to attend one or both forums. English to Spanish interpretation services will be provided at both forums.

Anyone with questions about the forums is encouraged to contact City of Yakima Communications & Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler by phone at 509-901-1142 or by email at randy.beehler@yakimawa.gov.

“The next police chief must be able to lead the department as well as collaborate with the community to make thoughtful and comprehensive operational and organizational enhancements,” said City Manager Cliff Moore.  “Input from neighborhoods and community members will be critical in helping me select the right person to become the next Yakima police chief.  I encourage community members to attend the forums and share their thoughts,” said Moore.

Following the community engagement process, Public Sector Search & Consulting will gather and screen applications. A list of candidates will then be presented to Moore and interviewed by several panels.  The panelists will provide critical feedback to Moore, who will ultimately appoint the next Yakima police chief.
