City Names Tim Kerns As Top Firefighter

The Yakima Fire Department has named Tim Kerns as Firefighter of the Year. The Rusty Hauber Award was presented to Kerns during a ceremony on Tuesday night. Kerns is one of the drivers for the new tiller ladder truck and recently finished near the top for the Lt. promotional exam. City officials say Even though department training dollars are scarce Tim still gets training both locally and across the state using his own time and money. Upon receipt of the award Tim Kerns said, “There are a lot of guys here that deserve this award … thanks.”
