Tight space and rising costs. Two big issues facing the Yakima City Jail. The solution? Yakima County Commission Chair Mike Leita says the city and county have come to a tentative 5 year agreement to house city inmates in the Yakima County Jail. “The agreement with benefit both the city and county.” No numbers are being released and the agreement must still be approved by Yakima City Council but Leita says it'll benefit both the city and county. The city has been studying for the last year what the city needs to do to create more city jail space. City officials looked at all the options including building a new jail and have decided tentatively to contract with Yakima County.

An agreement is expected to be before the Yakima City Council within the next month.
