A bunch of new police cars will soon be rolling on Yakima streets.

The Yakima City Council on Tuesday approved a program in which the city will purchase 74 new police vehicles at a total cost of 4. 7 million dollars. Yakima police officers will cover the cost of the cars themselves.

Officers have agreed to not to seek pay raises for 2 years to pay the city bill for the cars. City Manager Tony O'Rourke says each officer will be able to take cars home and use them at any time thus says O'Rourke increasing visibility and city security. The cars will be ordered immediately and should begin arriving by October.
