This is fire prevention week in the state of Washington. It's a time to think about fire danger and how you would survive a house fire says Yakima Fire Capt. Jeff Pfaff. The theme this year is "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”. Pfaff says look around your home for anything that could be a fire safety issue. Listen to your smoke alarms to see if they're working. And he says firefighters want you to learn at least two ways to escape your home in case of a fire.
Pfaff says every year a majority of fire deaths happen at home.
He says you may have as little as two minutes from the time the smoke alarm sounds to escape your home.
Pfaff says check your smoke alarms on a regular basis because they save lives.
