Changes Could Be Made To Vets Day Parade Route

The annual Veterans Day Parade along Yakima Avenue is planned for next Tuesday, Veterans Day 2014.  City officials are trying to figure out how to possibly re-direct the parade around the work to repair a water main that's closed the avenue between First and Second Streets. City Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins says he's working with members of the Yakima VFW Post 379 who are planning the parade. Hawkins says they may open a lane in the construction area to allow the parade to pass or they may divert the parade midway around the construction and then back to Yakima Avenue. No firm plans are yet in place. A decision about the parade is expected to be made before Monday.
