Capitol Tree Has Made it to Washington D.C.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — It's been a long trip, but the Capitol Christmas tree is finally in Washington. The 74-foot Lutz spruce comes from a national forest in Alaska. The tree was taken by ship from Anchorage to Tacoma, Washington. From there, trucker John Schank of Fairbanks drove the tree 4,000 miles across the country on a flatbed. The Alaska Public Radio Network reports it's the first Capitol Christmas tree from the 49th state. Fifth-grader Anna DeVolld, from Soldotna, Alaska, will light the tree at a ceremony a week from Wednesday.
