Yakima's temporary homeless camp called Camp Hope is about to become a lot more comfortable after the city Tuesday approved using $238,000 in money from the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments to extend water and sewer service to the site on city property near the wastewater treatment plant. Director Andy Ferguson says now that they have funding the engineering work will begin. "So it's going to be a 2 or 3 month process before we get set up with utilities."
In the meantime Ferguson says they'll be in what he calls a dry camp, not hooked up to utilities which means they're looking for water and food donations. Ferguson says they're looking for donations of bottled water and dinners for homeless. If you can help call Camp Hope at 426-2929.
