News Release From The Department of Natural Resources. State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan in support of local firefighters working to contain the Monastery Complex Fire in Klickitat County. Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources on September 7, 2011, at 6:45 p.m. at the request of the Klickitat County Fire District # 7.

The fires started at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. The fires are burning in timber and brush and are estimated to be over 500 acres in size. Level 3 Evacuations have been issued to approximately 16 homes on Box Canyon and Trowbridge Roads. The Red Cross has set up a shelter for people and animals at the Goldendale Fairgrounds.
