New laws last year in the city of Yakima helped to control the issue of agressive panhandling especially in the downtown area. There's been some positive results according to Matt Klaus with the Committee for Downtown Yakima. Now police say while it may be better downtown, panhandling is still a problem in other parts of the city including along 40th and Fruitvale and along First Street and Nob Hill. it's ok to ask for money in the city but the new laws ban agressive behavior assocaited with the begging for money.
