It is going to be another hot one in Central Washington -- maybe 100 degrees. And the perfect food for a day this hot is watermelon!

So maybe it's no coincidence that Aug. 3 happens to be National Watermelon Day. Either way, I have a few watermelon recipes that'll be perfect -- no matter how you slice it.

National Watermelon day should be celebrated. It is one of the best fruits on the planet.

Watermelon is thought to have originated in the Kalahari Desert of Africa. The first  recorded watermelon harvest occurred nearly 5,000 years ago in Egypt and is depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics on walls of their ancient buildings.

I am so glad that someone figured out how to grow it in the United States. During hot weather, I don't think I could live without it.

So try the recipes below -- or just slice it up and eat it while spitting the seeds out! That works, too!
