The dogs became legal to own in the city of Yakima on September 23rd of 2018. The Yakima City Council voted in august of last year after a discussions and debates on the issue.
Pit bull dog owners must follow the same rules as other dog owners. All dogs must be on a leash. they need to be licensed by city hall and they're prohibited from barking at or jumping on people on city sidewalks and streets.
The council made it's decision after the Yakima Humane Society threatened to end its animal control contract with the city. Since the ban was lifted people have been able to adopt the dogs from the Yakima Humane Society and other local breeders.
