Speed and Red Light Runners a Rolling Problem in Yakima
Have you been stopped by a Yakima Police Officer? Thousands of drivers over the last 10 months have stopped during traffic emphasis patrols that are ongoing through the summer months.
MORE RED LIGHT CRASHES DURING THE WEEK
During the week of June 18 through June 24 Officers made a total of 693 traffic stops and issued 280 citations. The Officers continue to investigate red light crashes. During the week they investigated 18 collisions with 7 of the crashes the result of drivers not stopping for a red light. Authorities say they're seeing lower red light crash numbers than during the winter months but it's still a big problem.
EVERY WEEK THE SAME INTERSECTIONS SEE RED LIGHT CRASHES
Police say a majority of the red light crashes are happening at three specific intersections in the city;
*40th Avenue and Powerhouse Road
*East Yakima Avenue and 17th Street
*16th Avenue and Summitview
Compare the numbers from June 18 through the 24 to the numbers from June 11 through June 17. Officers made 770 traffic stops during the week and issued 330 citations. They investigated 30 collisions with 13 red light crashes. The week before there were 9 red light collisions reported so police say it's a problem that seems to average 7 to 13 red light crashes every week.
