Ag News: Meat Labeling Survey
**An overwhelming number of consumers want food products developed from cultured animal cells to be clearly labeled as such.
Agweb.com reports, in a national survey Consumer Reports found 49% want lab-grown animal products labeled as “meat, but accompanied by an explanation of how it is produced,” while another 40% want it labeled as “something other than meat,” while only 5% thought it should be labeled “meat without explanation.”
The survey came out on the same day the FDA held a public meeting on the safety of these emerging food products.
**The USDA announced new procedures for the release of market-affecting crop and livestock reports from the National Ag Statistics Service and World Ag Outlook Board.
According to agrimarketing.com, under current "Lockup" procedures, information is released to the public at noon (Eastern), but the news media gets access about 90 minutes earlier.
Prompted by public inquiries, USDA determined technological advancements have afforded recipients of customized media reports a market advantage not enjoyed by the general public.
The changes begin August 1st.
**President Trump says he won't rush into a new NAFTA agreement. Trump told Fox News the U.S. can get a better deal by waiting until after the midterm elections this fall. Agriculture groups would like a deal sooner with tariffs cut.
Agrimarketing.com reports the President says he’s focused on trade and says, "Every country is calling every day saying, 'Let's make a deal, let's make a deal.' It's going to all work out."
