Two fires on Yakima Greenway property and at an abandoned home kept firefighters scrambling early Tuesday morning. Capt. Jeff Pfaff says the first two fires on Greenway property near the Highway 12/I-82 interchange were reported at about 2:00 a.m. "it's that time of year when people are using fires to warm and cook with."
Pfaff says at about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday firefighters were called to a fire at an abandoned home 400 block of west I Street. Pfaff has a message for owners of abandoned homes in the city. "Please monitor your property rather than just driving by it once a month. Check to make sure its secure."
Pfaff says fighting fires in the abandoned homes is dangerous..in fact a firefighter hurt his knee battling a fire at an abandoned home on Sunday in Yakima.
Officials say 47 abandoned properties are currently in the city of Yakima.
