DALLAS (AP) — Remember the Alamo -- because it's going to change. The Texas landmark is getting a makeover that will cost at least $48 million. The 18th-century former Spanish mission was the centerpiece in the battle for Texas independence from Mexico. The state is buying nearby commercial buildings and hiring a firm to develop a master plan for the area. Tourist draws like Ripley's Haunted Adventure may have to relocate. Critics say Alamo-related attractions need to focus more on San Antonio as a cultural and commercial gateway.
