The 2020 $232 million budget for the city of Yakima was approved by the Yakima City Council on Tuesday along with new fees to help pump up revenue in the future. The fees include increases for special events and parking tickets and for businesses that work with hazardous materials among other increases.
The council on Tuesday also gave the go ahead to spend 40,000 to help upgrade facilities at community centers including the Henry Beauchamp community center. The council also approved spending 50 thousand dollars for the February election to ask voters if a change in the city charter should be made to allow a strong mayor form or government.

The council wants a levy lid lift. City officials plan to ask voters on the February ballot  to approve a levy rate not to exceed $3.10 per $1,000 of assessed value.
