     The Central Washington Humane Society is still waiting to see if it won the AmericanSociety To Prevent Cruelty to Animals challenge and its $25,000.00  prize. Thousands of local residents voted in the challenge with the hope of Yakima winning first place. Alan Landvoy, Humane Society Director said Yakima is stilli in the running. Yakima finished second to Pittsburgh in the final voting but Landvoy said other criteria will be used to select the overal winner. In cunjunction with the vote Landvoy said over 1300 animals were adopted from the Yakima Humane Society.  The winner is expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks.  Landvoy says if  Yakima wins the money will be used for spay and neuter programs in the Yakima area.
