Zirkle Fruit Company's Osteopathic Scholarship Winner Announced.

The 2011-2012 Zirkle Fruit Company Osteopathic Scholarship winner is Quynh Le. The award was presented to Quynh at Zirkle Fruit Company on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 1:30pm.

Quynh graduated from Washington State University in 2009 with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Mathematics and Biology. This fall, Quynh will begin her first year of study at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) in Yakima, Washington, and will graduate in 2015.

Quynh aspired to attend medical school for various reasons, but the single, most important reason was to contribute to improving the health and well-being of those less fortunate.

Quynh’s family sacrificed a familiar life in Vietnam by coming to America so she and her sister could receive an education. Her family settled in a government housing apartment complex occupied by minorities and whites with a lower socioeconomic status. Living in such a mixed community of immigrants, poor rural whites, and Native Americans, has taught Quynh to communicate with others from backgrounds foreign to her. Growing up in an environment with other minorities and witnessing the disproportionate health care, has fueled Quynh’s genuine desire to provide medical care in underserved, rural communities.

The Zirkle Fruit Osteopathic Scholarship was created to assist students who are committed to providing medical services to rural communities in the Pacific Northwest, but are challenged financially to complete the four-year program at PNWU.

Zirkle Fruit Company is located at 352 Harrison Road in Selah.
