The Yakima Speedway is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Spokesman Steve Conduff says the sport of circle track racing has grown up over those 50 years from what started out as a hobby sport to professional racing teams that are found at the track today.

"There used to be an entry level and a professional level," he says. "Now there's five or six types of classes and none of them are hobby or knock the windows -- put a number on it ... there's a lot of technical things involved with circle track racing."

And of course, Conduff says one of the biggest changes racing has seen in the past 50 years is the Internet. Access to the Internet has allowed many drivers to find answers for technical problems and parts to become more competitive, he says.

This weekend you'll find action at the speedway with the 49th annual Apple Cup this Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available at yakimaspeedway.us
