Yakima Police Chief  Dominic Rizzi won't be taking over the Spokane Police Department. Rizzi was one of 4 candidates in the running for the job. But today the long-running effort to find a new police chief for Spokane has finally come to an end. Spokane Mayor David Condon Today announced Craig Meidl as the new chief. Meidl has been with the Spokane Police Department since 1994 and currently serves as interim police chief.
Earlier this year, Condon picked Meidl as chief even though he didn't apply or participate in the first selection process. The Spokane City Council forced Condon into holding new interviews with the candidates.
the other finalists were Elk Grove, California, Police Chief Robert Lehner;  Frisco, Texas, Police Chief John Bruce; and Craig Meidl of the Spokane Police Department.
Former Chief Frank Straub was pushed out by Condon a year ago after a series of problems.
