Yakima Police Chief Dominic Rizzi would like to see the state enact a racketeering law to allow police to seize the assets of documented gang members. The chief will tell that to lawmakers today when he attends the Washington Association of Sheriff's and Police Chiefs Legislative Day in Olympia.

The chief says a racketeering law would allow authorities to seize assets that would affect local gangs. He says he will tell lawmakers that the gang problem in the east is significantly spreading west and that something needs to be done to stop the spread.

The chief knows he has a lot of convincing to do to get westside lawmakers to agree to any law that would threaten the rights of citizens, including gang members.
