Yakima Officials Looking to Fight Gangs with Money From Federal Government
It is no secret that when it comes to federal gang funding a majority of the money goes to large cities but Yakima city officials have been demanding that more of that federal money come to smaller cities.
In fact Yakima Police Chief Dominic Rizzi says he has been urging Senator Patti Murray to urge the federal government to give money to cities like Yakima.
So I appreciate the Senator stepping up and identifying that smaller towns like Yakima have issues that need to be addressed and we need to be considered for some of those federal dollars.
Democratic Senator Murray has included language in the Senate Appropriations Bill that urges the government to consider the needs of smaller communities when it comes to handing out federal dollars to help fight area gangs.
Rizzi says only time will tell but he is hoping for hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money in 2015.
The money could be used for everything from officers to programs and equipment.
