In 2014 the city of Yakima failed in it's bid to become an All America City. So Yakima is trying again this year. Officials from the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce Today will hold a celebration outside chamber offices on North 9th Street at about 8:45 a.m. then chamber officials will announce at 10:00 a.m. that they're hoping to become an All America city in 2015. In 2014 the city was among 25 finalist cities hoping to gain the title. Yakima last earned the title of All America city back in 1994.
Since 1949, the National Civic League (NCL) has recognized and celebrated the best in American civic innovation with the prestigious All-America City Award (AAC). The Award, bestowed yearly on 10 communities (more than 650 in all), recognizes trail-blazing efforts to bring residents, local government, business and nonprofit groups together to tackle the most pressing local issues.
