The Yakima Greenway fully supports the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on parks and outdoor recreation.

The panel was created to help grow the state's outdoor industry and increase participation in outdoor recreation.

Yakima Greenway Director Al Brown says his organization has been pushing outdoor activities for kids for the past three years through the Kiddin' Around program, in which approximately 7,000 kids were involved last year.

We offered everything from fishing to a photo scavenger hunt, hikes -- just anything you can think of to get a kid outside.

Brown says the Greenway subscribes to the theory of "no child left inside" and that is the aim of the governor's task force as well. It is recommending 12 actions including the creation of a coordinating council on outdoor recreation, and spending more state money on outdoor programs for kids.
