The Downtown Association of Yakima is looking forward to the building of a plaza in downtown Yakima. President of the association is Victor Delong who says he believes it will be a very popular gathering place and will draw new business downtown. "I think it's a great step forward. I think the compromise that was reached between the council and the plaza group ultimately was a good compromise."
City officials worked with plaza designers to cut the cost of the plaza from $12 to $14 million to $10.8 million and the city council approved the new plan earlier this month.
Delong says in the last 10 years they've seen big changes in downtown growth but he expects the plaza to spur development around the plaza as so as it's finished possibly in 2017.
