Yakima County Superior Court Bail Set at $750,000 for Both Attempted Murder Suspects

Two people were charged in Yakima County Superior Court on Thursday in connection with the assault of 78 year old Yakima real estate agent Vernon Holbrook.

Holbrook remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle today. 38 year old Luis Gomez Monges and 23 year old Adriana Mendez were both charged with attempted first degree murder and first degree assault.

The two were arrested on Monday after authorities say they made up a story and gave fake id’s to Holbrook who met them at a Cowiche area home. during the meeting the woman told police she saw Gomez-Monges hit Holbrook in the head but then says she left the room to wait in the car with her three children. The suspects took off, but Holbrook never returned to work leaving co-workers and his family nervous. Deputies said they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit.

He was flown to Harborview Medical Center where he remains today. Both are being held in the Yakima County jail. bail has been set at $750,000 each.
