Fewer people are becoming victims of sexual assault in Yakima County with the number of cases actually dropping nearly 25 percent since 2011.

There have only been eight cases in the county since January, KIMA-tv reports, which is a low number welcomed by many, especially those who know any assault victims.

KIMA-tv also reports the "year-to-date" burglaries, home invasions and robberies are down to 401 this year from 548 last year.

All numbers are encouraging with deputies saying a better economy and big arrests can help keep lower crime numbers.
