In an exclusive interview, Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic appeared Thursday on The Morning News on KIT and talked at length about last week's DUI arrest of Yakima City Councilwoman Carmen Mendez.

Brusic says he is charging Mendez with a DUI in Yakima County District Court. He says the gross misdemeanor charge is appropriate after reviewing an investigation that was conducted by the Washington State Patrol.

Police records say Mendez had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit for driving when the car she was driving struck another vehicle and injured two people April 16 at the intersection of South 16th Avenue and Tieton Drive.

Mendez will be summoned to Yakima County District court for arraignment within the next several weeks, Brusic said.
