Will the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals grant a stay in the upcoming elections for the city of Yakima? it's something the Yakima City Council is hoping will happen. The council voted 5-2 Tuesday to ask the court for a stay in the elections as the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments later this year in a Texas case similar to the Yakima voting rights case. If the request by the city is granted by the court it's not clear how the elections would proceed. However Yakima County Auditor Charles Ross says he'll proceed under the new system until he's given an order by the court. Yakima City Mayor Micah Cawley is skeptical of the request but he says it's worth at least asking the court for the stay. City leaders say they're hoping to overturn a federal judges decision and a $2.8 million legal bill.
