The Yakima City Council voted Tuesday in favor of raising your utility taxes 6 percent to help fill a big budget hole and save city employee jobs. The council also voted in favor of moving forward the proposal to add 20 dollars to car tab fees to pay for city road work. it would bring it about 1 million dollars a year. The city also found a lot of support for a new downtown plan to handle the cleanup and security work. A new group is expected to be formed in the new year.

The utility tax increase will appear on bills in the new year, adding about 5 dollars to the average bill. The car tab issue requires a public hearing and a seperate vote that will come in the new year.
