After a long debate and after hearing more than 50 comments from community members the Yakima City Council Tuesday voted 4-3 against a resolution that would have made Yakima a "Welcoming city." Yakima Council members Avina Gutierrez, Dulce Gutierrez and Carmen Mendez were the council members who voted in favor. Other council members like Bill Lover and Maureen Adkison questioned why Yakima needed such a resolution. And mayor Kathy Coffey says the council should be more focused on finding a path to citizenship for those who want to become residents. After the initial vote the council voted again to move the issue to a city committee for further discussion.
