The Yakima City Council meets Tuesday night to for a busy agenda that includes a discussion on whether or not to lift the city ban on pit bull dogs that's been in place since 1987. City Council member Carmen Mendez first brought up the issue earlier this month when she told KIT News. "You don't have bad dogs you have bad owners that teach them things they shouldn't." Three attacks, including one that took the life of a elderly Yakima man pushed the council in 1987 to institute the ban. Today pit bull dogs are banned not only in Yakima but also Grandview, Selah and Wapato. Those cities however have no plan to repeal the ban. Some Yakima City Council members say they'd like the City Public Safety Committee to review the issue. Also the council tomorrow is expected to set a June 28 study session to talk about homelessness and where a possible encampment for the homeless could be located in the city. So far the city has held off on opening a camp while providing hand washing and portable bathrooms for people living on property in East Yakima. The council meets at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at Yakima City Hall.
