WSU Medical School Gets Preliminary Accreditation

SPOKANE (AP) — Washington State University's medical school has received preliminary accreditation.

The university made the announcement about the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine on Wednesday. KREM-TV reports the accreditation will allow the college to stay on track to enroll its inaugural class of students in August 2017.

WSU President Kirk Schulz said the news "puts us one step closer to educating physicians who will practice in Washington's undeserved communities and furthers the university's land-grant mission to serve the needs of the state."

The Floyd College of Medicine, named after WSU's late president, Elson Floyd, is the second public medical school in the state. It is the first to be added in 70 years.

Students will receive medical education across four of the WSU campuses, including Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver.
