Heavy rain pounded Yakima Tuesday night and Wednesday causing several areas around the city to flood.

On Wednesday morning, crews blocked off the road on 48th Avenue between Nob Hill and Viola to clear out a massive pool of water.

It took them several hours to pump it all out.

Crews also drained similar pools on 16th Avenue and Tieton, and 7th Avenue and Summitview earlier in the morning.

"Once or twice a year we will have a rain event like we did last night, and our storm system, 8 inch pipes, 10 inch pipes, just cannot handle the flow of water, not instantly, it take some time," said Brian Hoyt with the City of Yakima.

The rain also caused several power outages last night.

Pacific Power says over 300 customers along river road lost power, along with 1,200 customers in Wapato.
