Wapato Man Injured In Dramatic Crash On Lateral 1 Road

Yakima County sheriff's deputies say a 27-year-old man was injured in a dramatic crash along Lateral 1 Road in the Lower Valley Monday night. They say Austin Winsley was driving along Lateral 1 Road near Lateral C when he swerved to miss an animal in the road. His Jeep Cherokee went into a ditch. When the ditch ended the jeep went into the air about 80 feet across the empty canal at Lateral C Road. The jeep had spun while in the air and the roof of the jeep impacted the far canal bank.
Winsley was found by a passing motorist who called authorities. He suffered a broken hip along with other non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital.
