Fate of Sunnyside Marijuana Businesses Might End Up In Voters’ Hands

Voters in city of Sunnyside may be asked what they want to do about marijuana businesses. Several City Council members have suggested putting an advisory vote about banning marijuana business on the Aug. 4 primary election ballot.
Sunnyside has had a moratorium on such businesses since the 2012 passage of Initiative 502, which legalized recreational marijuana in Washington state.
Sunnyside has one officially proposed marijuana business, from a married couple who want to open a retail shop, but they lack a city business permit.
